P6 in Superpole, Troy Alberto makes history once again as WorldSSP300 season begins 

Troy Alberto has begun his 2023 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship season at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands. 

The youngster from the Philippines started the weekend in fine style on Friday, progressing well in the two Free Practice sessions before creating in Superpole on by becoming the first rider from his county to qualify inside the top six. 

The weekend’s two races however were tough. A combination of a few mistakes and Troy still not being fully healed from a previous collarbone injury resulted in him dropping outside of the top fifteen on both occasions. He finished P17 and P16 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. 

Troy Alberto:“After a strong qualifying with sixth in the mixed conditions the first race of the season was a bit up and down. I was really looking forward to the race as the pace was good enough to fight in the lead group. I lost contact with the lead group, and I was just pushing and trying too hard. I made way too many mistakes and dropped back even more. I ended up P16 just out of the points which is not what I had expected but I knew we had another chance on Sunday. Race two went better even though the result wasn’t what we wanted. I was strong at the beginning of the race but then I started to feel uncomfortable on the bike. The crash from last year where I broke my collarbone has meant I haven’t been able to prepare in the way I wanted to before the season and I started to feel a bit week. I finished towards the back of the front group but overall, I felt better because I was able to stay with the lead group. I want to thank Petr (my team mate), for his win. See you all in Barcelona.”
