Elevating the Standard: Suzuki Burgman Street EconoRun 2024 in Visayas and Mindanao

The Suzuki Burgman Street, renowned as the most fuel-efficient 125cc scooter in the Philippines, demonstrated its prowess yet again during the Burgman Street EconoRun held in Mindanao and Visayas on April 20 and 13 respectively. Achieving remarkable fuel efficiency ratings of 93.70 kilometers per liter (km/L) and 84.4 km/L, it truly raised the bar higher.

Challenging Scenarios in Breathtaking Locations

A total of 83 riders and 10 motovloggers participated in the event, vying for the title of the most fuel-efficient on their Suzuki Burgman Street Standard and EX variant scooters. In Cebu, participants embarked on a journey from Suzuki AS Fortuna (Mandaue City) SMDI 3S Shop to the picturesque white sand beach of San Remigio in Northern Cebu. Meanwhile, in Mindanao, riders traveled from Davao City at Shell Bago Gallera to the stunning Magnaga Waters Beach Resort in Davao de Oro. The routes encompassed various terrains, including flat stretches, twisty roads, uphill climbs, and downhill descents, providing an ideal setting for a fuel-economy challenge.

Impressive Performance Across Categories

The competition underscored the Burgman Street’s fuel-saving capabilities. In Cebu, Jivy Casona secured the top spot in the Burgman Street EX category with an impressive 84.4 km/L, followed by Junejeet Aguanta with 76.47 km/L and Brian Villacampo with 75.63 km/L. In the Burgman Street Standard category, Dario Villacorta Jr. led with 80.34 km/L, followed by Resty Florence at 79.49 km/L and Jimmy Villaver at 73.23 km/L, averaging 70.92 km/L as a group.

Motovloggers also demonstrated remarkable fuel efficiency, with Boy Perstaym leading at 84.4 km/L, followed by Miss PINAYpay at 78.69 km/L, InangMoto at 72.09 km/L, and MC Kwyn at 69.06 km/L. The challenge in Davao City surpassed expectations, with outstanding fuel-economy ratings reaching up to 93.7 km/L in the Burgman Standard Category.

Fuel Consumption

The event comprised an economy run that covered a variety of road conditions, including straightaways, twists, uphill, and downhill stretches, totaling a minimum distance of 100 kilometers.

To measure fuel consumption, each participant started with a full tank, recorded their odometer reading, and then refilled their tanks at the conclusion of the run to determine the fuel consumed. Subsequently, another odometer reading was taken to calculate the distance traveled. The fuel efficiency was then determined by dividing the distance traveled by the fuel consumed.

Participants had the discretion to throttle as they preferred but were required to maintain a minimum speed of 40 kilometers per hour and keep their engines running throughout the run. Marshals were present to enforce these regulations, and any rider found violating the rules was subject to disqualification.

Looking Forward

The Burgman EX Category also yielded impressive results, with Ronald Lenijan, John Bernal, and Malik Lipa achieving notable fuel-economy ratings. The media category in Davao City was equally impressive, with Kumander Daot leading the pack.

Key Figures Present

The Burgman Street Econo Run welcomed key figures from Suzuki Philippines Motorcycle Division, including Edelyn Yanilla, Johnny De Guzman, Noel Villapando, Zhele Acorda, Ramil Mulay, Jul Marie Bermejo, Patrick Olano, and Elijah Valle. Randy Salazar, Marketing Head for Cebu at Suzuki dealer partner SMDI, also joined the event. As preparations for the Luzon leg unfold, anticipation mounts to see if riders can further push the boundaries of fuel efficiency.
