MPCALA Holdings Inc., the concessionaire for the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), has announced that the Governor’s Drive Interchange has achieved a significant milestone, reaching 25% completion. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025, this interchange is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on major roads in Cavite, particularly Aguinaldo Highway in Silang. It will also boost economic activities in nearby cities and municipalities within Cavite.
The Governor’s Drive Interchange, which will be the longest segment of CALAX at 7.8 kilometers, extends from the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive. Currently, work includes excavation, bridge and drainage construction, and fence installation. Despite facing challenges from recent typhoons, Raul Ignacio, President and General Manager of MPCALA Holdings Inc., remains committed to completing the interchange on schedule. He emphasized that the new infrastructure will significantly ease traffic, provide a faster route for motorists, and stimulate regional economic growth.
Progress is also notable on the remaining CALAX segments. The Open Canal Interchange (Subsection 2) is 15% complete, while the Kawit Interchange (Subsection 1) is 25% complete, with both expected to finish by the third quarter of 2025. The overall completion rate for the CALAX project stands at 64%. Once fully connected to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) via the CAVITEX-CALAX Link, CALAX will serve over 95,000 motorists daily, improving traffic flow and connectivity between Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila. The expressway, spanning 45 kilometers with eight interchanges, will reduce travel time between CAVITEX and SLEX from two hours to just 35 minutes, enhancing regional connectivity. MPCALA Holdings Inc. is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), which also manages several major expressways across the Philippines.
