MPT South Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability on International Coastal Cleanup Day 2024

On September 21, 2024, Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), joined the worldwide observance of International Coastal Cleanup Day. Held at Barangay Caingin’s lakeside in Santa Rosa City, Laguna, the event saw 42 volunteers from MPT South, in partnership with the Santa Rosa City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), contribute to a collective effort to reduce plastic waste and protect local waterways.

Bringing together over a thousand participants from various organizations, the cleanup highlighted the urgent issue of plastic pollution along Philippine coastlines. Volunteers aimed to not only remove waste but also to spread awareness about the critical importance of preserving oceans, rivers, and lakes.

MPT South’s volunteers played a significant role in the collection of 2,016.5 kg of waste from the lakeside. The combined efforts of all participants yielded 591 filled trash bags, encompassing 126.5 kg of PET bottles, 611 kg of plastic laminates, 2,938 kg of residual waste, and 314.3 kg of special waste, totaling 3,989.8 kg of debris removed from the waterway.

This coastal cleanup aligns with MPT South’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship in the communities it serves. Through this initiative, the company reinforced its mission to not only enhance mobility via expressways but also to protect and nurture the ecosystems surrounding these areas.

“As a company closely connected to communities throughout South Luzon, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously,” said Arlette Capistrano, MPT South’s Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management. “We’re proud to be part of International Coastal Cleanup Day and remain dedicated advocates for environmental protection and sustainability.”

MPT South’s engagement in this initiative highlights its commitment to fostering sustainable practices and enhancing community welfare across the region.

As part of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), MPT South operates key toll networks including CALAX and CAVITEX. MPTC’s broader domestic network includes the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the NLEX Connector Road, the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu, underscoring its role as a leading infrastructure provider in the Philippines.
