Valenzuela City has partnered with ACMobility and BYD Cars Philippines to launch the country’s largest electric vehicle (EV) police fleet. On December 18, 2024, the city signed a contract to acquire 41 BYD Dolphin electric vehicles, marking a significant step towards sustainability and making Valenzuela the first local government unit (LGU) in the Philippines to implement an EV fleet for its police force. The initiative aligns with Valenzuela’s environmental goals and complies with national laws promoting EV adoption in government operations, including the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act.
This transition to electric vehicles is expected to improve public safety while reducing operational costs. The BYD Dolphin’s zero tailpipe emissions and low maintenance needs will allow the city to save up to 70% of its police fleet’s budget over the next five years. According to Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines, the partnership not only offers financial savings but also makes Valenzuela an environmental leader by reducing the city’s carbon footprint.

Valenzuela City has long been committed to sustainability through initiatives like its materials recovery facility and Clean & Green program. The integration of BYD Dolphin EVs into its police fleet takes these efforts a step further, reducing the city’s reliance on fossil fuels and improving air quality, especially in a region known for its industrial activities. The city’s move toward greener transportation is part of a broader commitment to environmental responsibility.
Deputy General Manager for Corporate Services at BYD Philippines, Lovelyn Labrador, praised the city’s decision as an example of how local governments can lead by adopting sustainable technologies. She highlighted how Valenzuela’s approach could inspire other communities and cities across the Philippines to explore similar sustainable mobility solutions.

In support of this shift, ACMobility will install 20 7kW and 2 22kW electric vehicle chargers throughout Valenzuela to ensure the seamless operation of the police fleet. Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian emphasized that this move serves as a powerful example for private companies and individuals to reconsider their own transportation choices, signaling a broader transformation toward eco-friendly practices.
With the largest EV police fleet in the Philippines, Valenzuela City is setting a new benchmark for sustainable public services, showing that progress and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. For more details, visit BYD Cars Philippines’ official website or follow them on social media.
