The FIM Asia Supermoto Championship 2018

With the battle for the season’s overall crown heating up, the second round of the FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship 2018 is set to take centre stage at the iconic Quirino Grandstand in Manila, Philippines this weekend. Taking place from 7 to 9 September in the heart of the capital city, the round also marks the return of the Championship after a year’s hiatus.

Set to take advantage of racing on home soil in their bid to be ranked amongst Asia’s best is this season’s Philippine duo of Mark Reggie A. Flores and Kenneth San Andres. Following a solid start to his FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship 2018 campaign after securing top ten finishes in the two races in Thailand last month, Kenneth San Andres commented, “I am really looking forward to racing this weekend on home ground. It gives me the added motivation to produce my very best and push as hard as I can to compete to be amongst the best in Asia. The competition is going to be tough but with the support of my friends and family as well as the fans, I will definitely give it my all!”

The battle for the Best International Rider title is also expected to be an intense affair between Simon Vilhelmsen of Denmark and Lewis Cornish of the United Kingdom. Bolstered by his double win at the season opener round, Vilhelmsen, who is ranked fourth in the world will look to carry the momentum of his victorious form from the Thai opener into the Philippine round this weekend. The duel will be intense with a resurgent Cornish poised to go all out to record his first win of the season in Manila.

“After a thrilling start to the season last month, we can definitely expect another exciting affair here at the Quirino Grandstand for round two of the FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship 2018. To bring the Championship back to the Philippines after a one-year hiatus at such an iconic venue in the heart of metro Manila combined with the high level of competition; it is going to be a thrilling weekend of racing. With the Philippine riders lining up on the grid and racing in front of their home crowd, there is plenty of action for fans and racing enthusiasts to look forward to!” adds Andrew Ching, Chief Executive Officer of E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd, promoter and organiser of the FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship.
