Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), Honda’s automobile business unit in the Philippines, officially announces that the All-New Civic RS Turbo was officially crowned as the 2016 Car of the Year – Philippines. The All-New Civic RS Turbo beats out 72 other eligible contenders for the industry’s most prestigious award at the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) Awards Night held on November 21, 2016 at the One Rockwell East Tower in Makati City.
The All-New Civic RS Turbo also takes home this year’s honors in the Best Compact Car category and bags the SpeedLab Tuner’s Choice Award in what was a triumphant night for the Japanese car manufacturer. These latest accolades further establish the 10th-generation All-New Civic as a dominant return to form for the automaker’s best-selling model, winning the award for the first time since its predecessor garnered the honor back in 2006.
These awards build on the winning tradition of the current Civic, which has also recently won the Compact Sedan of the Year and Best Engine Performance – Compact Sedan Segment at the 2016-2017 Auto Focus People’s & Media’s Choice Awards. In addition to its domestic accomplishments, it has also gained international recognition, winning the 2016 North American Car of the Year, 2016 Canadian Car of the Year, and other notable awards around the world.
The All-New Civic was developed to set a new benchmark in its class with its completely redesigned exterior, modern and expansive cockpit design, powerful yet economical engine, and a full suite of new and advanced technologies. These qualities undoubtedly made a significant impression on CAGI organizers and test drivers, composed of the leading motoring journalists in the country, as it emerged as this year’s overall winner after three challenging test days featuring several instrumented test runs and qualitative drives.
The All-New Honda Civic is now available in two variants (1.8 E CVT and RS Turbo) at all Honda dealerships nationwide, so head to the nearest branch now to see Honda’s multi-award-winning vehicle in the flesh and experience this iconic model for yourself. With an uncompromising blend of dynamic looks, spirited yet efficient performance, class-leading cabin refinement, and segment-first safety and tech features, the 2016 All-New Civic RS Turbo is unquestionably the Civic’s most compelling iteration yet, and leaves no doubt that it is completely equipped and finally ready to reclaim and defend the compact car throne that was once the exclusive domain of Honda’s proud and storied nameplate.
The All-New Civic was not the only winner from Honda’s stable during the CAGI Awards night, as the Best Premium MPV of the Year award went to the Odyssey EX, while the New Legend 3.5 Sport Hybrid SH-AWD was recognized as the NUVALI Green Car of the Year during the CAGI Awards Night.
CAGI annually recognizes the country’s top new Car and Truck since the inaugural Car of the Year – Philippines Awards in 2004. It has improved its stringent testing process every year to ensure that winning models truly deserve the award. All participating vehicles must either be new or significantly upgraded, and must have been launched in the country between October 2015 and November 2016. CAGI also distinguishes itself from other award-giving bodies in the country by utilizing both subjective and objective data in determining the winners. This year marks the third time HCPI receives the Car of the Year – Philippines award from CAGI, following the victories of the Accord and Civic in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
