The new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 achieved its first 24-hour race victory at the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa, held on June 29-30, 2024, at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. This win marked Aston Martin’s first overall victory in the event since 1948 and made it the first British manufacturer to win in 40 years. The triumphant team, Comtoyou Racing, included drivers Mattia Drudi, Nicki Thiim, and Marco Sørensen. For Thiim and Sørensen, this victory was particularly special as it was their first overall 24-hour race win together, despite their previous successes in other endurance races.
The race was marked by challenging weather conditions and multiple safety car periods, yet the team managed to stay competitive throughout. The final hour saw the #7 Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin trailing a Ferrari, which then faced a pit lane delay, allowing Drudi to secure an unchallenged victory. The team’s composure and skillful execution during the race were crucial to their success. In addition to the overall win, the #34 Walkenhorst Vantage GT3 also performed strongly, finishing fourth after leading at several points in the race.
The new Vantage GT3, derived from the recently unveiled Vantage road car, has shown impressive form, clinching several victories in major racing events in June 2024. The win at Spa is a significant milestone for Aston Martin, reflecting the car’s technical excellence and the team’s determination. Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport, praised the team’s effort and highlighted the achievement as one of the greatest in Aston Martin’s endurance racing history. The victory adds to Aston Martin’s storied legacy at Spa, building on past successes and setting a new standard for the brand in GT racing.
