There’s a new lid in town and its brand name is the most unique I’ve heard so far. Mookem Helmets has set up shop in Caloocan just March of this year and it has already gained a lot of traction in the moto riding community. The Mookem is a well-established brand that hails from Thailand and it is widely known for motorcycle parts and accessories. When the brand decided on expanding its business into the motorcycle helmet industry, it saw the Philippines as the perfect launch pad.
With a its tag line “Safe in a new shape”, Mookem offers a variety of helmets in eye-catching styles and colorways. Being an old soul, I personally like the Mookem Classic Open Face which, fortunately, I got my hands on right before the recently concluded The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.
If you’re into vintage and classic motorcycles then this is probably the lid for you as well. The Mookem Classic comes in many designs and I opted for the off-white gloss finish with a nice checkered strip adorning the bottom rim. It also features racing stripes from the front and to the back of the helmet. The outer shell is compact and it would fit in most under seat compartments.
This classic helmet doesn’t need to be paired with goggles as it already comes with a clear, scratch-resistant lens. It is even fitted with a retractable dark lens so your eyes are protected not only from dust and other debris but also from the harmful glare of the sun. Yet, if you really want to go dark mode, the Mookem Classic also comes with an extra smoke lens. That’s darn good value for its price tag of P 2,400.

Though I would prefer a double-D retention system to complete the retro look, the Mookem Classic does come with a more practical quick-release strap and it is quite convenient to use especially on short rides around town. Like most ECE rated lids I’ve used, it is light and comfortable to use all day long save for the little bit of tightness in ear area. If you’d like to check out the Mookem Helmets product line-up, just visit the Mookem Philippines FB page or simply drop by any of their two stores along 10th Avenue Caloocan.
