MANILA, PHILIPPINES – To mark the beginning of the 2016 testing season, the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) is holding their launch event at the Manila Polo Club on October 18, 2016. Expected to attend the event are the stakeholders in the automotive industry, manufacturers, and distributors, as well as CAGI’s sponsors and friends who share the group’s vision of keeping the Filipino consumer informed of the best cars for sale in the market.
Established in 2004, the CAGI is the longest-running organization of motoring journalists in the country today. Unlike other award-giving bodies, CAGI prides itself of holding annual test fests, where all vehicles for consideration go through a process of classification and sorting, before they are subjected to qualitative (consumer) and quantitative (performance) testing. Qualitative testing uses predetermined consumer metrics like the ride, fit, and feel, while quantitative testing used GPS-based hardware to measure acceleration, braking, and handling. Each year, winners for each category are announced, and from that winners pool emerges the year’s COTY-P and TOTY-P.
In preparation for this year’s testing season, CAGI has recently added two (2) brand-new VBOX Sport data loggers to its arsenal. The VBOX is an internationally recognized data acquisition system that uses high-performance GPS receivers. It is able to measure speed, distance, acceleration, braking distance, heading, slip angle, lap times, position, cornering forces, and more with high accuracy.
For the second year in a row, internationally respected auditing firm KPMG shall be in-charge of all the data handling during the testing process. This includes the data gathering, tabulation, and up to the final audit and release of the official results.
“We are expecting around sixty (60) new or significantly upgraded vehicles to join this year’s testing,” said CAGI president Robby Consunji. “Eligible for consideration this year are vehicles launched in the PH market from October 2015 to November 2016. This timeframe is set yearly, to ensure that only the latest vehicles are tested, and the buying public is able to make informed decisions when making their purchases” he added.
The Car Awards Group, Inc.’s 2016 Car of the Year – Philippines season is co-presented by Carmudi in partnership with KPMG. Sponsors include Ayala Land Premier, Nuvali, Metro Pacific Tollways
