Chevron Philippines Inc., the marketer of Caltex fuel and lubricants, in partnership with the American Chamber Foundation Philippines, Inc. (AmCham), has launched an innovative Supervised Industry Learning (SIL) program. This initiative targets graduates of the auto-mechanic course from Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati, Inc. (Don Bosco), aiming to enhance their practical skills and prepare them for professional certification.
The SIL Program will see successful completers of the automobile mechanic course undertaking on-the-job training (OJT) or apprenticeships within Chevron’s extensive distributor and workshop network. This hands-on experience will be conducted in Caltex Do-It-For-Me (DIFM) auto workshops, where students will apply their skills under the guidance of seasoned mentors. The immersion is designed to fulfill the required hours for TESDA qualification, integrating real-world experience with academic learning.
In addition to benefiting the student-trainees, the SIL Program provides Caltex workshop partners with valuable manpower resources, supporting their operational needs. Students will have the opportunity to train in various Caltex-branded workshops, including Caltex autoPro, Caltex Havoline autoPro, and Caltex Delo Sports oil change centers, gaining practical knowledge across different facets of automotive service.
“The collaboration with AmCham and Don Bosco aligns perfectly with Chevron’s mission to foster skill development and career growth among students,” said Billy Liu, General Manager of Chevron Philippines. “This program not only supports the educational advancement of young auto mechanics but also continues our long-standing partnership with Don Bosco, enhancing learning and livelihood opportunities for its students.” The SIL Program will run for four months, with students required to complete a total of 640 hours to secure their TESDA certification.
