Chevron Philippines Leads Batangas Coastal Cleanup

Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), in partnership with Chevron Holdings Incorporated (CHI), successfully led a coastal cleanup along the San Pascual shoreline in Batangas, collecting 12 tons of trash in time for the Olive Ridley sea turtles’ nesting season. The event, part of Chevron’s long-standing tradition since 2007, saw 206 volunteers, including employees and partner organizations, working along the 5-kilometer coastline to clear debris. This effort helps make the area a safer nesting ground for the vulnerable sea turtles, whose hatchling population has significantly increased from 23 in 2022 to 768 in 2024.

Ray Año, Chevron Batangas Terminal Manager, emphasized that this initiative is part of Chevron’s larger environmental stewardship mission, encouraging employee participation in safeguarding local ecosystems. Meanwhile, CHI Corporate Affairs Manager Arlita Narag highlighted the importance of these cleanups, reminding volunteers about the impact of responsible waste disposal on marine life. Through partnerships with local governments and private organizations, Chevron fosters community involvement in maintaining the cleanliness of coastal habitats.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) representative Charlene Constantino also praised Chevron’s efforts, noting that these initiatives have positively impacted the Olive Ridley turtle population. As these turtles return to their birthplace to lay eggs, maintaining a clean and safe shoreline is crucial to ensuring their survival. Constantino invited more volunteers to join future cleanups to protect and preserve these creatures for future generations.

Chevron’s annual cleanup initiative not only supports marine conservation but also reinforces its broader commitment to environmental sustainability. In addition to cleanups, the company engages in tree-planting activities and educational seminars on waste segregation, underlining its dedication to preserving both local livelihoods and the environment.
