Ducati Introduces the Lightest V2 Engine in Its History

Ducati has unveiled its new V2 engine, weighing just 54.5 kg, making it the lightest twin-cylinder engine the brand has ever produced. The V2 continues Ducati’s tradition of high-performance engines, combining lightweight design and advanced technology. It features IVT (Intake Variable Timing), DLC treatment on the rocker arm, and hollow stems for intake valves. This engine is available in two configurations, offering 120 hp and 115 hp, catering to different riding needs while enhancing Ducati’s versatility across its bike range.

The new V2 is Euro 5+ compliant with a displacement of 890 cc. It incorporates modern architecture like aluminium liners and spring valve timing, improving both performance and maintenance efficiency. Valve clearance checks are now required only every 30,000 km, underscoring Ducati’s focus on reducing the cost of ownership. The engine’s compact size, achieved through the strategic positioning of components like the water pump and heat exchanger, contributes to its versatility, making it suitable for various Ducati models.

In terms of performance, the V2 offers a torque-rich power delivery that ensures smooth operation at low revs while maintaining high-revving sportbike performance. Its bore and stroke dimensions (96 mm x 91.5 mm) strike a balance between the Testastretta and Superquadro engines, offering both road usability and track-ready power. The sportier 120 hp version can even hit 126 hp with a racing exhaust, while the 115 hp version is designed for longer adventures with reinforced components for improved smoothness at low revs.

A key innovation in the V2 is its IVT system, which optimizes valve timing based on engine speed and throttle position for enhanced torque distribution. The engine also benefits from DLC-treated components, hollow valve stems, and advanced combustion management for improved fuel efficiency. These features collectively establish the V2 as one of the most efficient and powerful engines in its class.
