Ducati pays homage to Ayrton Senna by presenting a collector’s limited edition Monster, celebrating the Brazilian racing driver’s extraordinary career and enduring legacy. The production number of 341 units symbolizes Senna’s achievements: 3 World Titles and 41 Grand Prix victories.
The Monster Senna special edition honors the strong relationship between Ducati and Senna, a bond that continues through collaborations with Senna’s family and Senna Brands. This partnership has led to the creation of the special livery, designed by Centro Stile Ducati.
Ayrton Senna was among the first to own a Monster 900, which he used in Monte Carlo and notably rode to the gala evening of the 1993 Monaco F1® Grand Prix. The Monster’s blend of sporty performance, ease of use, and minimalist design resonated with Senna’s approach to motorcycling.
The Monster Senna’s livery pays tribute to the three-time World Champion with colors inspired by his helmet and the Brazilian flag: yellow, green, and blue.
The presentation of this special Ducati took place at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack in Imola during the Made in Italy and Emilia-Romagna Formula 1® Grand Prix. Remarks were given by Claudio Domenicali (Ducati CEO), Bianca Senna (Senna Brands CEO), and Stefano Domenicali (Formula 1® President and CEO).
Claudio Domenicali, Ducati Motor Holding CEO: “Ayrton Senna is an enduring icon, not only for his sports achievements but also for his passion for motorcycling. We honor him with a special edition of one of our most iconic models: the Monster. Senna, as an early owner of the Monster 900, perfectly embodied the bike’s values: style, boldness, and fun. The Monster Senna is a testament to our respect and admiration for this legendary champion.”
Bianca Senna, Senna Brands CEO: “The partnership with Ducati is historic and remains significant. The Monster recalls Ayrton’s high-performance lifestyle and his enjoyment of leisure moments. This partnership is a heartfelt tribute to his legacy.”
The Story of Ducati and Ayrton Senna
The connection between Ducati and Ayrton Senna began in 1990 when Claudio Castiglioni, then owner of Ducati, gifted Senna a Ducati 851 SP. Their shared values led to the creation of the Ducati 916 Senna, featuring a livery personally chosen by Senna, combining anthracite grey, matt black, and red. Despite Senna’s tragic accident in 1994, the project continued in his memory, with the first series selling out quickly and followed by two more series in 1997 and 1998, with colors chosen by Senna’s brother, Leonardo.
In 2014, Ducati and Senna Brands resumed their collaboration with the 1199 Panigale, producing a limited series of 161 units, corresponding to the number of Grand Prix races Senna participated in. Ducati Senna models are highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
Benchmark Components
The Monster Senna features premium components that enhance its performance and aesthetics, achieving a curb weight without fuel of 175 kg—4 kg lighter than the standard model. It is powered by the Testastretta 11° engine, a liquid-cooled, 4-valve twin-cylinder with desmodromic distribution, producing 111 horsepower. The bike boasts a functional chassis inspired by Ducati Superbikes, Öhlins suspension, forged wheels, Brembo Stylema® front calipers, and advanced electronics.
The special edition also includes a unique seat, engine guard, and dedicated dashboard animation. Each motorcycle is marked with a plaque on the triple clamp, indicating the model name and unit number, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a dedicated motorcycle cover.
