Caltex’s efforts to support public high school education was recognized anew by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) with a Gold Anvil Award given for the project Caltex Fuel Your School (CFYS) Bicol.
Caltex Fuel Your School has helped 1,567 teachers and 42,955 students from Bicol’s highest-need public high schools better teach and learn Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). From its start in 2015, a total of 3,000 teachers, and 1.17 million students in 88 public high schools will benefit from the program in the next 6 years.
Caltex Fuel Your School, with the aid of branded marketer Southern Cross Distribution Inc., raised P3 million through a fuel-to-donate scheme and also resulted in increased sales volume for the 22 Bicol Caltex station that participated. The fund was used to purchase LED projectors, smart TVs, laptops, tablets, calculators, microscopes, lab equipment and other teaching tools that help make learning more interactive and interesting. These equipment was given to 30 highest-need public high schools in Bicol selected by the Department of Education.
The project empowers teachers and students to promote awareness in their communities about this initiative. Caltex Fuel Your School was also able to make use of the students’ fondness with social media to drive online buzz, a testament to the positive use of technology.
Previous editions of Caltex Fuel Your School in Manila and Davao have also won awards with PRSP and other award giving bodies. Atty. Raissa Bautista, Policy, Government, and Public Affairs Manager of Chevron Philippines Inc.(CPI), marketer of Caltex, said, “This award validates the efforts of our beloved teachers and student for better education. Caltex will continue to partner with students, teachers and communities in other regions of the country to help bring 21st century teaching to our public high schools.”
CPI is committed to contribute to the development of education in the country through its Caltex Energy for Learning (EFL) program that supports educational program to provide learning and livelihood skill to disadvantaged people. Caltex EFL initiatives have helped thousands of Filipino students and youths with literacy programs, school renovations, community libraries, books and computer donations, skills and livelihood trainings.
