Kawasaki, a leader in the local Big Bike market, is making a significant move into the highly competitive 125cc scooter segment. After more than a decade without a presence in this high-demand category, Kawasaki is set to launch a new scooter model in September, according to sources from the company’s dealership network.
The upcoming model, dubbed the Kawasaki Brusky 125, marks Kawasaki’s return to the scooter market. The last scooter model released by the brand was the Kawasaki Curve, a 115cc scooter, which has not seen a successor for over ten years.
While Kawasaki has not yet disclosed specific details about the Brusky 125, they have confirmed that it will be based on the platform of the Modenas Karisma 125S, a popular scooter in Malaysia. Modenas, a Malaysian motorcycle brand, is partly owned by Kawasaki Motors, holding a 30% stake in the company. This collaboration will see the introduction of the Brusky 125 under the Kawasaki brand in various Asian markets.
If the Brusky 125 follows the Karisma 125S’s design, it is expected to feature an engine with both electric and kick starters, a 14-liter underseat storage, and a 5.1-liter fuel capacity. Additionally, given the popularity of 125cc scooters among Moto Taxi and delivery riders, the Brusky 125 will likely include a USB port for charging smartphones on the go.
Pricing for the Kawasaki Brusky 125 is anticipated to be between P70,000 and P77,000, making it a competitive entry in the 125cc scooter market. With this launch, Kawasaki is poised to intensify the competition in this segment.
Stay tuned for more updates as Kawasaki prepares to unveil its latest offering in the coming weeks.
