LRT-1 Cavite Extension features world-class construction technology

Construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is going on in full swing with the installation of pi-girders through above-ground launcher.

The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), private operator of LRT-1, is working with Bouygues Travaux Publics as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for this much-anticipated LRT-1 extension. A global player in construction operating in more than 80 countries from 5 continents, Bouygues Travaux Publics is an expert in large-scale projects involving tunnels, engineering structures, as well as road, port & rail infrastructures.

For the phase 1 of the project, a total of 203 pi-girders (chief horizontal support in a structure) will be installed using the above-ground launcher. The project’s target is to install a pi-girder every 1-2 days until January 2022. A first for the Philippines, this special engineering method allows for faster execution and causes minimal effect on the ground-level traffic. The other pi-girders will be installed via on-ground equipment such as straddle carriers and cranes.
