Gian Carlo Mauricio’s remarkable performance under intense pressure at the Zhuhai International Circuit in China marks a significant milestone in his racing career. Despite competing in the ARRC for three seasons, a podium finish had remained elusive for the young rider until now. Starting the race from the 5th position on the grid, Mauricio’s confident approach to Race 1 proved justified as he skillfully maneuvered through the final lap, emerging as the leader with seemingly effortless ease. This triumph not only marked his first victory but also secured the first-place finish for the Yamaha Philippines Racing Team this season.
This victory builds upon the team’s successful start in Round 1 of the Asia Road Racing Championship, where they secured podium finishes in both the SS600 and UB150 categories last March. The UMA MMR Yamaha Philippines Racing Team continues to vie for the top spot, with valuable contributions from Mauricio and teammate April King Mascardo, who finished in 11th place.
Additionally, McKinley Kyle Paz, representing the Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team Asia, maintained the team’s leading position in the standings with a 7th place finish in the SS600 category during Round 1. However, Race 2 was canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions the following day.
The team’s consistent performance reflects the effectiveness of Yamaha’s enhanced racing program, which focuses on developing riders and machines to compete at the highest level and produce champions.
Upon their return to the Philippines, the Yamaha Philippines Racing Team received a warm welcome at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, where they conducted their post-race press conference. Looking ahead, the team is gearing up for Round 3 of the ARRC and aims to extend their winning streak at the Mobility Resort in Motegi, Japan, scheduled for June 7-9.
