MDPPA Collaborates to Strengthen Automotive Regulations at the 15th Public and Private Joint Forum in Asia

From November 26 to 28, 2024, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) took part in the 29th Asia Government and Industry Meeting, also known as the Public and Private Joint Forum in the Asian Region. The event, hosted by the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) at Acacia Hotel Manila in Muntinlupa City, brought together government officials and automotive industry leaders from ASEAN countries, as well as China, India, Pakistan, and Japan, to discuss advances and strategies following the 1958 Agreement.

MDPPA representatives, including Technical Committee Members Andrew Angeles, Joselito Ang, and Gilmar de Castro, participated in the forum co-chaired by the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) and Japan’s Automobile Standards Internationalization Center (JASIC). Discussions centered around harmonizing vehicle regulations to remove technical barriers, enhance road safety, and promote innovation within the automotive sector.

The three-day forum featured opening remarks from DOTr Undersecretary Jesus Ferdinand Ortega and a keynote address by DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, emphasizing the Philippines’ commitment to the 1958 Agreement. Presentations updated attendees on domestic standards, regulatory plans, and the adoption of UN regulations, while representatives from various economies shared insights on traffic safety and future regulatory trends. Participants also toured Hino Motors Philippines in Laguna, gaining valuable insights into aftersales operations and manufacturing processes.

MDPPA’s involvement in the forum reflects its commitment to promoting road safety and sustainable industry growth. Earlier this year, MDPPA launched the “Tropang MAALAM” campaign, which aims to enhance motorcycle rider safety through education and engagement. With initiatives like this and active participation in regional forums, MDPPA continues to drive collaboration, innovation, and development in the Philippine motorcycle industry.
