The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) took part in the 29th Asia Government and Industry Meeting, hosted by the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) at the Acacia Hotel Manila. This three-day event brought together government officials and automotive industry leaders from ASEAN countries, China, India, Pakistan, and Japan to discuss advances and strategies following the region’s accession to the 1958 Agreement on vehicle regulations.
Representing MDPPA were Technical Committee Members Andrew Angeles, Joselito Ang, and Gilmar de Castro. The forum, co-chaired by the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) and Japan’s Automobile Standards Internationalization Center (JASIC), focused on harmonizing vehicle regulations across the region. This collaboration aims to remove technical barriers between member states and enhance road safety and innovation in the automotive sector.
The event opened with remarks from DOTr Undersecretary Jesus Ferdinand Ortega and a keynote speech by DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, who underscored the Philippines’ commitment to the goals of the 1958 Agreement. Presentations covered updates on domestic standards, regulatory plans, and the adoption of UN vehicle regulations. Attendees also shared insights on traffic safety and upcoming regulatory trends. Participants toured Hino Motors Philippines (HMP) in Canlubang, Laguna, to learn about aftersales operations and manufacturing innovations.
MDPPA’s participation reinforces its commitment to policy collaboration and the promotion of road safety and industry development. Earlier this year, MDPPA launched the “Tropang MAALAM” campaign, an initiative promoting motorcycle rider safety through education and awareness. This forum and MDPPA’s continued efforts highlight its dedication to fostering innovation and sustainable growth within the Philippine motorcycle industry.
