The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA), comprising the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the Philippines, introduced its latest road safety campaign, “Tropang MAALAM,” during a special media event that included a group ride from Pasig City to Wyndell’s Cafe, Tanay. The ride demonstrated safe road practices, emphasizing courtesy and discipline. The event was followed by a media conference with MDPPA board members and key officers.
“Tropang MAALAM,” which stands for “Modelo, Alerto, Aktibo, Ligtas, Aalalay, at Matalino,” aims to empower motorcycle riders to be more informed, responsible, and safety-conscious on the road. This initiative is part of MDPPA’s ongoing commitment to road safety education, promoting rider rights and creating a safer riding environment. Through awareness, education, and engagement, MDPPA seeks to make roads safer and protect lives.
In addition to the campaign launch, MDPPA shared positive projections for the Philippine motorcycle industry. The association expects a 4% growth in 2024, with total motorcycle sales forecasted to exceed 1.6 million units—the highest in five years. This surge is fueled by the increasing demand for motorcycles as an affordable and convenient transportation option. As of August 2024, the industry has recorded a 3.8% year-to-date growth, with the automatic motorcycle segment leading at 64% of market share. MDPPA remains optimistic about the industry’s continued growth, bolstered by government initiatives to improve road infrastructure and safety.
