The Single Ticketing System (STS) implemented by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has had a successful pilot run in five cities of Metro Manila, according to the MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes. The initial feedback has been positive, with no major issues, concerns, or complaints reported. The STS’s implementation aims to provide a seamless traffic violation system for motorists and authorities alike.
While there were some glitches encountered, such as familiarity with the system, issues with uploading information on violations, and access to the portal, adjustments are being made to ensure the seamless implementation of the STS. The MMDA is focused on training traffic personnel on the use of new gadgets, distributing handheld devices and body cameras, and customizing the digital handheld devices procured for use by the LGUs.
The changes introduced by the STS have been beneficial for motorists, according to San Juan Mayor and MMC President Francis Zamora. Driver’s licenses are not just confiscated anymore, and there is a uniform set of fines imposed for the 20 most common traffic violations in Metro Manila. The system also offers online payment of fines, providing convenience to motorists.
The successful pilot run in five cities has paved the way for the STS to be rolled out in other cities. The MMDA and the LTO will continue to gather feedback and look for ways to improve the system further. The STS aims to simplify the traffic violation system in Metro Manila, and the initial feedback suggests that it is on the right track.
