MMDA’s Motorcycle Riding Academy Set to Open in the Third Quarter of the Year

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that its Motorcycle Riding Academy, located in Pasig City, is scheduled to open in the third quarter of this year.

During an inspection at the ongoing construction site along Meralco Avenue, MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes revealed that the academy is already 80% complete.

“The facilities for the Motorcycle Riding Academy are ready. There are just a few minor details that need to be addressed, and once those are taken care of, it will be fully operational and open to the public,” Artes stated.

In addition, the official mentioned that the academy will repurpose the container vans previously used as COVID-19 quarantine facilities and transform them into classrooms.

To ensure convenience for participants, the academy will be equipped with a clinic, comfort and shower rooms, as well as dining areas. The two-day training at the academy will be provided free of charge, and it can accommodate up to 100 participants per batch.

The MMDA will supply the motorcycles and cover the cost of gasoline for enrolled riders. However, participants will be required to bring their own helmets and personal protective gear.

Artes expressed his gratitude to the MMDA’s partners who contributed to the establishment of the motorcycle riding academy. The Government Service Insurance System allowed the MMDA to utilize the vacant property, Honda Motors Philippines assisted with the technical aspects of the curriculum, and Mr. Dashi Watanabe provided refresher training courses for MMDA personnel who will serve as trainers at the academy.

The agency is currently coordinating with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to ensure accreditation of the motorcycle riding course. Additionally, they are working with ride-hailing firms to prioritize employment opportunities for course completers.

“Hopefully, through this academy, we can instill discipline in motorcycle riders and transform them into responsible motorists,” Artes remarked.
