We’re right smack in the middle the rain season and riding in wet conditions call for superior tire traction. If your trusty daily rider still sports an old pair of rubbers, maybe it’s time you get a new set.
My 2010 Yamaha Fino (Thai version) have had just one tire change in its 13-year service. With Fino parts getting more expensive, as well as medical services, I couldn’t risk having a spill because of a tire slip.
There are plenty of motorcycle tire brands to choose from but one new player in the industry stands out, Corsa. Strictly speaking, the brand is not that new, actually, as Corsa Tires Philippines has already set up shop back in 2019. Yet, the global pandemic came and all things came to a halt. Now that everything is back to the “old normal”, Corsa is back on track in its goal of “dominating the streets”.
Well, since I wanted to dominate the streets as well by keeping my rubber side down whenever I ride, I thought it best to give Corsa a try. Except maybe for those very rare sizes, Corsa hadmost sizes used in almost all motorcycle models in the market. My Fino uses a pair of 14-inchers, which is quite common because this is the size used on most commuter scooters. I opted for the Corsa Cross S, which has an on road / off-road tire pattern.
Wouldn’t it ruin the styling of the Fino, you ask? It certainly did not!
If anything, having fitted the Cross S on my Fino gave it additional character. From a conventional classic scooter, it has now turned into a retro-rugged scrambler scoot! Yet, this change is not without some practical purpose.
You see, our roads are seemingly made of water-soluble material that turn into mush during a heavy downpour. With its knobby tread pattern, the Corsa Cross S inspires more confidence than a pair of garden-variety street tires would. Also, I’ve noticed that the Corsa S absorbs shocks better and it takes the load off the Fino’s ineffective old coil spring.
Now, my old grocery-getter Fino suddenly have a new purpose and I’m having thoughts of going on adventure trips with it. It’s amazing what a difference a pair of tires make.
