JAMA Lube Oil Seminar 2025: Empowering Filipino Motorists with Smarter Engine Oils

Amidst rising fuel prices and increasing maintenance costs, the JAMA Lube Oil Seminar 2025, hosted by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and Petron Corporation, highlighted the latest advancements in engine oil technology. Held on March 5 at the Makati Diamond Residences, the event brought together global experts to discuss how innovative lubricants are improving fuel efficiency, engine protection, and reducing emissions, paving the way for a more sustainable future in Philippine motoring.

A key focus of the seminar was on ultra-low viscosity oils, such as 0W-8 and 0W-16, which can enhance fuel economy by up to 3%. Experts emphasized that these oils, paired with modern vehicle designs, contribute to long-term savings for drivers while reducing CO₂ emissions. The use of these advanced oils also extends engine life, making them a wise investment for Filipino motorists looking to optimize their vehicle’s performance.

The seminar also explored how low-friction lubricants are reducing vehicle emissions, playing a critical role in supporting the country’s move towards carbon neutrality. As environmental regulations tighten, high-quality engine oils aligned with Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards are becoming essential for lowering harmful pollutants and meeting sustainability goals, particularly in high-traffic areas like Metro Manila and Cebu.

Motorcycle owners were not left out, as the introduction of the JASO T 903:2023 standard for motorcycle oils was discussed. These new formulations improve fuel economy, prevent clutch slippage, and extend oil change intervals, making them particularly beneficial for the Philippines’ congested roads. The latest innovations in motorcycle lubricants ensure better performance, cleaner emissions, and long-term engine protection.

The seminar concluded by addressing the needs of hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) owners, presenting specialized lubricants designed to manage cooling, transmission efficiency, and electric motor performance. As the Philippine market gradually embraces electrification, these advanced lubricants will be critical to ensuring optimal performance and longevity for hybrid and electric drivetrains.
