Grab Philippines, MOVE IT, and AXA Team Up to Provide Free Life Insurance for Driver-Partners

Grab Philippines and motorcycle taxi platform MOVE IT have partnered with AXA Philippines and PhilPacific Insurance Brokers & Managers, Inc. (Philinsure) to boost social protection for their driver-, delivery-, and rider-partners. This collaboration underscores their commitment to enhancing partner welfare by offering free life insurance to top-performing driver-partners.

This initiative builds on the current insurance coverage that partners already have while engaged in ride bookings or deliveries. It also forms part of the Ka-Grab Rewards and Ka-MOVE IT Rewards programs, which aim to provide greater financial security for participants and their families, aligning their benefits with those seen in formal employment. By offering access to healthcare and insurance, Grab and MOVE IT are setting new standards for gig economy workers.

According to Grab Philippines Country Head Ronald Roda, this initiative ensures that hardworking driver-partners not only earn a livelihood but also receive security and peace of mind. The free life insurance strengthens the gig economy by recognizing drivers’ contributions and offering them protections that help them navigate life’s uncertainties, reinforcing the value of their work.

Grab Philippines, the first on-demand service platform to provide free life insurance to its driver- and delivery-partners since 2016, continues to prioritize partner welfare. MOVE IT followed suit in 2023 with the Ka-MOVE IT Rewards program, offering the same support to its rider-partners. One of the beneficiaries, Catherine Lorenzo, a solo parent and MOVE IT rider, emphasizes the importance of financial protection, stating that it provides security for her family in case of unfortunate incidents on the road.

The partnership with AXA Philippines and Philinsure ensures comprehensive coverage valued up to PHP 1 million, including life insurance, accidental insurance, disability coverage, and terminal illness protection. AXA Philippines CEO Ayman Kandil highlights that the initiative empowers Grab and MOVE IT driver-partners with security, stability, and the confidence to build a better future for themselves and their families.

This collaboration reflects Grab and MOVE IT’s ongoing dedication to the welfare of their driver-partners. By working with industry leaders like AXA, they are offering solutions that balance flexibility with essential protections, supporting not just livelihoods but also creating a more secure future for gig workers in the Philippines.
